Playful workday

My boss decided to take us to one of the hundreds of free Stampede Breakfast celebrations this morning.  Said it was a team building/bonding thing.

Riiiiiigt.

Anyway, this is Calgary Stampede‘s 100th Celebration so everyone is more cowboyish than usual.

We had pancakes with blueberry sauce, sausages (yuck) and cake.  There was coffee, juice and something else but I’ve forgotten what it was.  They were giving away free cowboy hats, fake Indian headdresses and golf passes.

There was live entertainment…some country band.

There were lots of mascot type characters walking around for the kiddies…and us.

By the time we got back to the office it was 10:30 AM and NO ONE was inclined to get to work.

Even the Prime Minister of Canada showed up at our building today.  Very low-key.  Nothing like the President of the U.S.A. with his army of Secret Service men.

That’s it.  And there was not a lick of extra security in the building either.  It’s such a giant contrast it’s hilarious to everyone.

And it pretty much stayed that way the entire day.

So, although I got some work done, it was not much.

Plus, I couldn’t eat my lunch because of the pancake I ate at breakfast.

I couldn’t focus all day because of the happy Stampede mood of everyone around me.

Lesson learned:  don’t bring me out at the start of the day if you want me to get work done after:)  I feel like I should be roping a calf or something. And I don’t even like horses, let alone ride them.

I’m sure a lot of work didn’t get done by anyone after a morning like that but it’s alway’s a pleasant diversion. My problem would be not being able to eat anything not having it be gluten-free. But, Hey, at least I’d get a Cowboy Hat out of it. I’m not really into the Country thing either but I love horses.
